This is going to be my live blog post of Glastonbudget 2022. Not really a review of the bands or anything, just an update throughout the days that I’m there as to what I’m doing and who I’ve seen. After each day I shall hopefully update the post with some photos, so long as there aren’t any technical issues.
--------------------------------------------------
I have arrived!
Media pass collected and I’ve had a quick walk about to get my bearings, now just waiting for the first band which is on at 3.20 I think.
A bit of confusion about timings as I’d made a note from the website but there’s a sign in the VIP area that has completely different timings. From the looks of it so far, the website times are correct. I’ve seen Jam Room opening up the Big Top and Funked Up on the Main Stage.
Stages look great, but the main stage is a bit high when I’m stood in the pit taking photos, let’s see how they turn out.
A few more bands have been on, Sam Kola opened up the Icon stage, I saw Revival in the Big Top, then caught a couple of song by Tapes before heading upto the main stage for Blurb.
The Veez are next on the Big Top stage and then I might have a wander round to grab some food.
Had a bit of a chill out in my car, and then saw Chris Ostler on the Icon stage before heading up to the main stage to see Pure Paloma, one of the acts I’ve really been looking forward to this weekend.
Kazabian played to a packed out Big Top, and it’s back to the Icon stage soon for a couple of bands before Mercury take to the Main Stage
--------------------------------------------------
The updating while I was there took a bit of a hit as I met up with a few people, got chatting and didn’t have much down time to write anything.
I did manage to catch the rest of the bands on the Big Top and main stage, and then any bands on the Icon stage as I was walking between the two, but I didn’t venture over to the LoCo stage at any point, which will hopefully change today.
I had the time to edit some photos over night, and they are now uploaded to this post, but with very little sleep, let’s see how much energy I have for today and tomorrow to keep this post updated
--------------------------------------------------
I just caught a couple of songs from Forever 80s, who opened up the Main Stage today, and now just chilling out for a bit, as it’s going to be a long day, and possible bad weather later on.
Seen a few bands so far, The Whiskey Chasers, The Wicked Jackals, James Watt, Heather McDowell, Boy Gorgeous, One Step Behind and The Other Country. All on either The Main Stage, the Big Top or the Icon stage as the LoCo stage hasn’t started yet.
The weather has been very erratic. When I got here it was lightly raining and windy, so took my hoodie with me, but soon after, the sun came out, but still a bit chilly with the wind. However, when the wind dies down, it is quite warm, but predicting more rain later on. Why can’t we just have a nice sunny few days.
I'm currently sat waiting for Happy Mondaze while I listen to another band on the next stage up.
I’m still going strong, still a few more hours left of todays music, and got some cracking acts coming up this evening.
I headed over to the LoCo stage a couple of times, but mainly stayed near the three main stages as it’s so easy to stay at the back and walk between them.
Amy A on the main stage was great, stayed around to listen to quite a bit of that set. Was a bit tricky to get photos due to the amount of people on the stage, and with the high stage, it was a challenge, but think I managed to get some good shots.
There was a world record attempt of ‘most people wearing paper crowns’. Not sure if it was a world record, but there were a lot of people with paper crowns, from the audience to security and band members.
Almost at that time of day when I head off to grab some food, need something to keep me going until about 10pm tonight.
--------------------------------------------------
It happened again. I got through about half the day and then either didn’t have any free time or was just feeling too knackered to do any updates, so I’m not going to commit to any updates today. I also didn’t get any time to upload any photos from yesterday to this post yet. So for now, I’m going to leave this and update it from the middle of Friday until the end of the festival when I get home and have some free time.
--------------------------------------------------
Right, so let’s continue and finish this update from Friday afternoon, about half way though me being there that day.
It had just been the world record attempt and then there were a couple of acts I wanted to see on the Icon stage and LoCo stage, ones I’d either heard good things about or had band members I knew from other bands.
On the Main Stage and Big Top we had Stereotonics, Police Academy, The Pistols, Alternative - Pet Shop Boys, Ed Sheehan Experience, LOVE distrACTION, UB40 Experience and the main stage headline for Friday, Oasish.
I was mainly sticking to the three main stages, as it’s so easy to stay backstage and get along to all three of those. To head out to the LoCo stage, which I did do a few times on Friday, you have to go through certain gates and out onto the main arena.
It was another great day, I finished off watching Oasish and then headed home.
I did try to get some more photos done, and had some to hand off to the people at Glastonbudget to possibly use on the main stage screen at the end of the festival, but I didn’t have any time to upload them to this post. They are now there, as are the ones fromSaturday as well.
I was back at the site on Saturday, but a bit later than planned as it had taken me a bit longer to do some things, but I was there for about 1pm and ready to get started.
When I arrived, it was only slightly raining, and my weather app was showing that it would be like that for an hour or two and then clear up. I decided to not take my hoodie, but quickly realised that was a mistake and went back to my car to get it. This would be needed as with the wind, it was quite cold at times.
I saw a few bands as I was walking round the various stage, but the first main band I wanted to see on Saturday was SKAM in the Big Top.
As always, they rocked the place and had a good crowd for being on relatively early on the third day, when a lot of people may be lacking in energy. Great stage presence and totally belong on the big stages.
I’m not going to go into who I saw and when on the Saturday as I was pretty much going between the Main Stage, Big Top and Icon stage. I don’t think I went out to the LoCo on Saturday, but I did miss a couple of bands on the Icon stage as it started to rain quite heavily at one point in the afternoon. I was taking photos of Money For Nothing on the Main Stage and felt a few drops of rain. I knew I had a bit of time before the next band on anywhere, so headed to the VIP tent for a bit of a sit down and. Oils hear the main stage from there, but it suddenly got quite crowded as the rain stated to come down. I was staying dry, but knew I would have to go out in the rain at some point. I brought along an older backup camera, in case anything went wrong with my main one, and did have plans to use it if the rain started. However, it was not needed as I kept checking my weather app and it was showing heavy rain for about an hour and then clearing up to virtually nothing.
I stayed in the VIP tent for a while, and when I had to, headed quickly down to the Big Top, so at least I was under cover again. By the time I left that stage, the rain had stopped, and although the ground was wet and it was cold at times, the rain stayed away.
For the rest of the day I stayed to the three main stages, seeing the bands I particularly wanted to see, and heading off to other stages to take photos of some bands I was unfamiliar with, hoping to find some gems that I can look up and maybe see again at a local venue, and there were certainly a few that I’ll be keeping an eye on for any upcoming gigs.
The festival ended by Guns 2 Roses headlong in the Big Top and Absolute Bowie headlining the Main Stage.
The crowds were packed for both acts, people had stayed the course and were rewarded with some fantastic headline acts. I was kind of going between the two, and then headed home.
It was a fantastic festival, great to be back after missing the last two years for obvious reasons, and can’t wait to be back in 2023 to do it all again.
